Vladimir Putin has called Ethiopia's joining the BRICS group an important milestone. The President also recalled that the two countries have had diplomatic relations for over a century.
Bilateral meetings between leaders are taking place alongside the BRICS summit currently underway in Russia. During their bilateral discussions, they discussed strengthening trade and investment relations. Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed in his speech at the 16th BRICS Summit in Kazan, called for strong trade ties and investment between BRICS member countries.
Ethiopian Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed met with Russian President Vladimir Putin on the sidelines of the summit. Africa News reported that Ethiopia is the third largest economy in sub-Saharan Africa.
