Ethiopia's Economic Transformation: World Bank Shows Support

A delegation led by Finance Minister Ahmed Shide has held discussions with top officials of the World Bank. The delegation, which included National Bank Governor Mamo Mihretu, Prime Minister's Macroeconomic Advisor Teklewold Atnafu, and State Minister of Finance Eyob Tekalign (Dr.), met with World Bank leadership during the bank's 2024 annual meeting.

The delegation discussed with Victoria Kwakwa, World Bank Vice President for Eastern and Southern Africa, and Akihiko Nishio, Vice President of the International Development Association, about the ongoing macroeconomic reforms in Ethiopia, the status of ongoing and priority projects, and future collaborations.

Finance Minister Ahmed Shide briefed the bank officials on the progress of Ethiopia's economic reform, which focuses on low-income citizens, and the effective implementation of projects supported by the bank.

The Vice Presidents commended the successful policy measures taken by Ethiopia's top political leadership to achieve economic stability.

They also acknowledged Ethiopia's efforts in its second-generation economic reform to address inflation and boost productivity across various sectors. Furthermore, the officials reaffirmed the bank's commitment to supporting Ethiopia's efforts to achieve a comprehensive economic transformation that benefits all citizens.
