The 24th edition of the Great Ethiopian Run, set to take place on November 8, 2017, is more than just a race, according to co-founder and Olympian Richard Nerurkar.

He sees the event as a powerful tool for sports diplomacy, attracting participants from over 20 countries and showcasing Ethiopia's vibrant culture and stunning landscapes.

"The Great Ethiopian Run plays an indispensable role in enhancing sports diplomacy," Nerurkar stated. "It's not just about the race itself, but about the experience it offers, the connections it fosters, and the positive image it projects of Ethiopia to the world."

Nerurkar highlights the event's inclusivity, welcoming not just elite athletes but also casual runners, walkers, and even those who simply want to experience the unique atmosphere of the event. He emphasizes that the race is "for everyone," a message that has resonated with participants from around the globe.

The event has also become a powerful tool for tourism promotion, with many participants extending their stay in Ethiopia to explore its historical sites and diverse landscapes. Nerurkar notes that the race has become a "great running experience," with many participants choosing to stay in the country after the event.

The Great Ethiopian Run, a 10-kilometer race looping through the streets of central Addis Ababa, has been meticulously prepared for over six months, ensuring its success as in previous years. The event has also become a platform for corporate social responsibility, with this year's theme focusing on "Balanced Nutrition for All Children."

Nerurkar acknowledges the challenges of attracting international participants who may be intimidated by Ethiopia's renowned running talent.

However, he emphasizes the event's accessibility, highlighting the diverse range of participation options, from competitive running to leisurely walking and even dancing.

The Great Ethiopian Run, founded by legendary athlete Haile Gebrselassie, continues to be a testament to Ethiopia's dedication to sports diplomacy and international engagement.
