Ethiopian Police to Deploy Drones to Secure Addis Ababa Ahead of Major Events

The Ethiopian Federal Police is to deploy drones to monitor traffic flow and overall security in Addis Ababa. Commissioner General Demelash Gebremichael recently announced the upcoming deployment of drones to manage traffic, security, and large-scale events in the city.

A joint security force has assessed the security situation in and around Addis Ababa at the Federal Police headquarters and established a plan for future action. Commissioner General Demelash stated that significant efforts are underway to significantly improve crime prevention. He added that, based on a plan implemented 15 days prior, the combined security forces have achieved significant results in ensuring lasting peace and security in the city.

This has resulted in a favorable security situation in Addis Ababa, allowing for preparations for the upcoming Timkat (Epiphany) celebrations and the African Union summit to proceed peacefully. While occasional vehicle and mobile phone thefts are still reported, the joint security force is working diligently to address these issues to ensure the free movement of citizens and tourists without fear.

Addis Ababa Police Commissioner Getu Argaw, in a press statement, attributed the reduction in crime to the collaborative efforts of the Ethiopian Federal Police, the community, the peace forces, and law enforcement officers, utilizing technology day and night. He emphasized that the joint security force has successfully thwarted various attempts by terrorist groups to disrupt the city's security, making the likelihood of armed groups causing security problems extremely low and the city's security exceptionally reliable.
