Development Partners Reaffirm Unwavering Support for Ethiopia’s Green Economy

Development partners and international organizations have pledged continued support for Ethiopia's efforts to build a climate-resilient economy.

The announcement came on Tuesday during a discussion forum in Addis Ababa, hosted by the Ministry of Planning and Development as part of the Climate-Resilient Green Economy (CRGE) platform. The forum highlighted Ethiopia's progress in implementing COP29 commitments, key achievements in building a green economy, and strategies for future climate action.

Samuel Doe, UN Development Programme (UNDP) representative in Ethiopia, highlighted the nation's growing international recognition for its climate-resilient green economy initiatives. He underscored the pivotal role development partners play in overcoming challenges and capitalizing on emerging opportunities.

Nina Hissen, Climate and Agriculture Lead at the UK Embassy in Ethiopia, reiterated the UK's commitment to collaborating with stakeholders across African nations to address climate change and protect the environment.

Participants emphasized the importance of international cooperation in advancing Ethiopia's green economy aspirations.

Solomon Zewede, Climate Change Advisor at the Norwegian Embassy, announced a collaborative agreement between Norway and Ethiopia aimed at strengthening cooperation in carbon trading and forest development.

Mensur Dessie, Executive Director of Environment, Climate Change and strategic Pratnership at Ethiopia's Ministry of Planning and Development, confirmed Ethiopia’s ongoing efforts to implement international climate agreements.

 He highlighted the country's proactive approach to developing effective climate policies and its advocacy for African interests ahead of COP30 in Brazil.

The forum served as a platform to showcase Ethiopia’s climate policies, strategies, and achievements.

Participants reached a consensus to enhance support from development partners, acknowledging the positive impact of sustained collaboration on Ethiopia's climate resilience journey.
