The Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam (GERD) Coordination Project Office has announced that over 271 million Birr has been raised for the dam's construction in the first quarter of the current fiscal year.
The construction of the GERD is nearing completion thanks to the united efforts of Ethiopians. The GERD Coordination Project Office's Public Diplomacy, Public Relations, and Communications Executive, Solomon Daniel, stated that the target for the 2017 fiscal year is to raise 1.6 billion Birr for the dam's construction.
He further explained that over 271 million Birr has been collected in the first quarter through bond sales, 8100 short text messages, and donations from Ethiopians both within the country and abroad.
The Executive emphasized the commitment to reaching the year's fundraising target and urged the public to continue their support until the dam's completion. He also called upon media outlets and prominent social media influencers to play their part by informing the public about the various fundraising options.
