Amhara Region Surpasses 1.25 Billion Birr Mark for GERD Construction

The Amhara Regional State's Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam Coordination Office has announced that over 1.25 billion Birr has been collected in the region since the construction of the dam began.

According to Abayneh Getu, head of the Coordination Office, who spoke to EBC, government employees, the business community, farmers, investors, students, and other segments of society in the region have left their mark on the construction of the Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam.

He stated that as a result, over 1.25 billion Birr has been collected in the region for the dam's construction over the past years since its commencement.

The head also pointed out that over 100 million Birr was planned to be collected in the region during the current budget year, and 68 million Birr has been successfully collected in the past seven months.

He explained that this is a good performance considering the security situation in the region.

He added that various segments of the community, including the youth, have played a significant role, from organizing various fundraising programs.

Abayneh further stated that they will continue to strengthen these efforts and work together with the community to complete the construction of the Renaissance Dam, which has reached its final stages.
