UN Supports Ethiopia's Efforts For Regional, Global Peace

The United Nations has expressed robust support for Ethiopia's ongoing initiatives aimed at fostering both regional and global peace. Ramiz Alkarov, the UN Assistant Secretary-General and Humanitarian Coordinator for Ethiopia emphasized the organization's commitment during a peace conference taking place in Addis Ababa. The conference is themed "Building a Prosperous and Peaceful Africa," reflecting a broader aspiration for stability and development across the continent.

In his remarks, Alkarov highlighted Ethiopia's historical significance as a prominent player in peacekeeping efforts, noting that the nation boasts a rich history in this area. He articulated the considerable role Ethiopia has played in maintaining stability not only in its borders but throughout Africa as a whole. Alkarov pointed out that ensuring peace on the continent is paramount for promoting security and well-being globally, thereby underscoring the necessity of collaborative efforts among nations.

Alkarov also reiterated Ethiopia's strong belief in the principle of African solutions to African problems. He cited recent advancements, specifically the successful disarmament and reintegration of former combatants, as clear evidence of the effectiveness of peace agreements in the region. These measures signify a transformative step toward lasting stability and reconciliation.

Moreover, the conference addressed the pressing need for Africa to adapt and strengthen itself in light of evolving geopolitical dynamics worldwide. Participants underscored the importance of harnessing the continent's abundant natural resources and developing robust national mechanisms for conflict resolution. These strategies are seen as vital for empowering African nations to navigate contemporary challenges and assert greater agency in international affairs. Through these concerted efforts, the conference aimed to lay the groundwork for a more prosperous, peaceful, and self-sufficient Africa.
