Ethiopia has secured third place in the men's Adhan (call to prayer) and women's Quran memorization categories of the second International Quran and Adhan Competition.
The 2017 International Quran and Adhan Competition, hosted by Ethiopia for the second time, held qualifying rounds in previous days with international Quran judges in attendance. The final competition and award ceremony, where winners were announced, took place today at the Addis Ababa Stadium.
The ceremony was attended by Sheikh Haji Ibrahim Tufan, President of the Supreme Council of Islamic Affairs in Ethiopia; international judges; competitors from various countries; diplomats; and invited guests.
Ethiopia achieved third place in the women's Quran memorization category through Qemariya Woldu Mohammed and also in the men's Adhan category through Adam Jibril.
Libya won first place in men's Quran memorization; Indonesia in men's Adhan; Yemen in women's Quran memorization; and Egypt in men's Quran recitation. Various prizes were awarded to the winners.
Sheikh Haji Ibrahim Tufan, present at the award ceremony, expressed gratitude to all who contributed to the success of the program. He attributed the successful competition to the peace prevailing in the country and emphasized the need for everyone to work towards lasting global peace.
Participants from foreign countries visited various attractions in Ethiopia and commented on the country's rich natural and man-made resources.
Sixty countries participated in the international Quran and Adhan competition, organized by the Supreme Council of Islamic Affairs in Ethiopia and the Zayd Ibn Sabit Quranic Association.
