The Internet Development Conference (IDC) 2025 Kicked off in Addis Ababa to lay the foundation for a stronger, more integrated Internet ecosystem in the IGAD region.

The three-day event aims to reshape the Internet landscape across the IGAD region by addressing connectivity challenges, bolstering regional cooperation, and unlocking the potential of a thriving Internet economy.

Bringing together experts, policymakers, and industry leaders, the conference sets the stage for dynamic knowledge exchange, professional networking, and collaboration on pivotal initiatives.

High on the agenda are plans to establish Internet Exchange Points (IXPs) and expand community networks to underserved areas, paving the way for more equitable access to the digital world.

With participants from IGAD member states, including Ethiopia, Kenya, Uganda, Somalia, South Sudan, and Djibouti, the conference is a critical platform for tackling the unique challenges hindering Internet development in the region.

The conference is designed to identify barriers, explore practical solutions, and foster cross-border learning to enhance technical expertise and strengthen infrastructure.

Moreover, IDC 2025 is poised to play a vital role in accelerating the implementation of the Africa Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) by promoting digital collaboration among IGAD countries.

The event is also expected to champion initiatives that bridge the connectivity gap and empower local communities through sustainable Internet development.

As the discussions unfold, stakeholders are optimistic about crafting strategies to transform the IGAD region into a model for digital integration and innovation.
