Ethiopia is accelerating its transition to electric vehicles, with a bold goal of reaching 95% electric vehicle adoption within the next decade.
The Ministry of Transport and Logistics announced this plan, stating that the goal is to accelerate electric vehicle production to reduce fuel costs and build a greener environment.
The State Minister of Transport and Logistics, Bereo Hassen, indicated that the ministry is developing a plan to bring up to 500,000 electric vehicles into use within the next decade.
This includes a target of 95% of all vehicles imported into the country being electric within that timeframe. Currently, fully imported electric vehicles have a 5% import tax, while those partially assembled are exempt from import taxes, according to a report by ENA.
