The Minister of Agriculture, Dr. Girma Amente, announced that $366 million has been earned from the horticulture sector in the past eight months.
An international horticulture exhibition is currently taking place at the Millennium Hall under the theme "Horticulture for Sustainable National Goal."
During his address at the event, the Minister stated that the country possesses significant untapped potential in the horticulture sector. He added that the government has placed a special emphasis and is actively working to properly utilize this potential.
The Minister highlighted the close collaboration between the government and stakeholders in the horticulture sector, assuring that various forms of support will continue to be provided to further develop the sector.
On his part, the Chairman of the Ethiopian Horticulture Producers and Exporters Association, Nega Mekonnen, noted that the contribution of the horticulture sector to the overall national economy of the country has been steadily increasing.
Furthermore, he stated that the sector employs a significant workforce and is playing a role in alleviating the problem of unemployment.
He indicated that the government needs to focus on expanding access to the sector and strengthen efforts to engage investors.
According to FBC, numerous investors and foreign diplomats are participating in the exhibition organized by the Ethiopian Horticulture Producers and Exporters Association.
