FDA Intensifies Product Quality Checks Ahead of Ethiopian Christmas

Ethiopia's Food and Drug Authority (FDA) has announced rigorous monitoring and control measures to ensure the quality and safety of products for the upcoming Genna (Ethiopian Christmas) holiday.

Consumption and sales of goods significantly increase during holidays like Christmas. Therefore, strong oversight of businesses is crucial to prevent quality and safety issues.

Mulatu Tesfaye, the FDA’s lead executive for Food Inspection and Law Enforcement, stated that intensified monitoring and control are underway to guarantee the quality and safety of products for the holiday market.

He explained that quality control is being implemented in collaboration with stakeholders, particularly in areas with high sales volumes, focusing on food and food-related products. Consumers are urged to carefully check product quality and expiration dates before purchasing. The public is also advised to report suspicious activity to the FDA’s toll-free number (8482) or to law enforcement, reported ENA.
