EBS CEO Owns Up to Staff’s Mistake, Publicly Seeks Forgiveness

EBS Television has officially apologized for a documentary it aired about Birtukan Temesgen.

The woman had told EBS that she was gang-raped, but days later regretfully confessed that she had lied to the nation.

EBS CEO Aman Fisahatsion admitted that some team members acted unprofessionally, violating journalistic ethics. He regretted that the documentary was produced and aired without proper fact-checking.

He found that the evidence presented in the report wasn’t thoroughly verified, blaming the journalists involved who failed to properly investigate background checks before broadcasting.

EBS Television has issued a sincere apology to all Ethiopians for the harm caused, promising to hold those responsible accountable. The station vowed to learn from these mistakes and pledged to implement corrective actions. This documentary has prompted reactions from dozens of politicians who accuse it of aiming to create chaos.
