Ethiopia, Denmark Launch Rapid Groundwater Geophysical Survey Project

Ethiopia and Denmark launched Rapid Groundwater Geophysical Survey Project, which will enable effective integrated water resources management in Ethiopia.

The Ethiopian Ministry of Water and Energy announced the 5-year project will allow climate resilient water resources management.

Minister of Water and Energy, Habtamu Itefa (PhD) said at the same time that the project will scientifically demonstrate Ethiopia’s groundwater resources, including their quantity, quality and location.

Minister Habtamu also noted that Ethiopia’s groundwater resources have not been adequately documented in terms of quantity and quality.

Danish Ambassador to Ethiopia, Sune Krogstrup, said that the project supports integrated water resources management and climate change.

The project aims to support climate-resilient water resource management by developing the potential of groundwater resources by implementing and enhancing modern geophysical technologies in Ethiopia's water sector, according to the ministry.
