This year's Christmas celebration in Lalibela is reported to have revitalized the city's tourism sector. The Lalibela City Administration announced that the holiday made a significant contribution to boosting the tourism sector, which had been sluggish in previous years.
The administration's First Deputy Mayor, Wondmeneh Wodaj, stated that more tourists visited this year than last, and the celebration was successfully completed as planned, resulting in a significant revival of the tourism sector FBC reported. Accordingly, the holiday demonstrated the area's peaceful conditions and laid the groundwork for future tourist flow and tourism benefits.
Wondmeneh explained that service providers at various levels reported that the holiday restored economic activity they had lost in previous years. The Deputy Mayor added that visitors and guests who came for Christmas attested to the peacefulness of Lalibela and its surroundings. He emphasized that Lalibela residents understand that tourism is the foundation of their livelihood and therefore wouldn't want anything to disrupt it. He concluded with a call for Ethiopians and Ethiopian diaspora to visit Lalibela and its surrounding areas.
