Police Says Addis Ababa Crime Plummets After Coordinated Operation

A coordinated operation between the Ethiopian Federal Police Commission and the Addis Ababa Police Commission has led to a significant drop in crime rates across the capital city.

The operation, involving senior leadership, sub-district commanders, and station heads, targeted a range of criminal activities, including human trafficking, vehicle theft, drug trafficking, counterfeiting, and technology-enabled theft.

The success of the operation highlights the effectiveness of inter-agency collaboration and targeted policing strategies.

The operation resulted in the arrest of numerous suspects involved in various criminal enterprises.

Individuals suspected of trafficking humans, vehicles, and drugs were apprehended, along with those involved in circulating counterfeit currency.

The operation also targeted individuals engaged in the theft of mobile phones, laptops, and other valuable assets.

"The operation has been instrumental in disrupting criminal networks and apprehending key individuals involved in a wide range of illicit activities," stated a Federal Police Commission spokesperson.

Law enforcement officials emphasized the operation's success in tackling technology-facilitated crime.

Several suspects employing technology to obscure the location of stolen mobile phones were arrested.

Additionally, the operation led to the apprehension of individuals involved in armed robberies and the seizure of illegal weapons.

"We are committed to staying ahead of evolving criminal tactics and utilizing technology to enhance our crime-fighting capabilities," affirmed a representative from the Addis Ababa Police Commission. The focused operations in Kirkos and Bole districts resulted in the arrest of suspects involved in robberies targeting government infrastructure and motorcycle-enabled mobile phone thefts.

Beyond specific arrests, the overall security assessment indicated a marked improvement in the city's peace and security situation.

The coordinated operation significantly enhanced coordination and capacity among security forces, contributing to a notable decline in crime rates. "The coordinated efforts of our security forces have demonstrated their effectiveness in maintaining public safety and restoring peace and order," stated a police official. The ongoing operation will continue to be strengthened, with regular evaluations and public updates on its progress.

This commitment to transparency and continuous improvement underlines the dedication of law enforcement to ensuring the safety and security of Addis Ababa's residents.
