Ethiopia Goes Public with Climate Change Response Plan Implementation Program

Ethiopia officially initiated the implementation of its National Climate Change Response Plan in a ceremony graced by senior government officials.

Deputy Prime Minister Temesgen Truneh, along with ministers, officials from federal and regional bodies, as well as delegates from international organizations, attended the gathering.

During his speech, Deputy Prime Minister Temesgen highlighted the susceptibility of Ethiopia to droughts and floods induced by climate change.

Temesgen mentioned that the government of Ethiopia has been implementing a range of activities and developing relevant policies in order to effectively address this challenge in a sustainable manner.

The nation has established a goal to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 68.8 percent by the year 2030.

The implementation strategy emphasizes Ethiopia's dedication to coordinated efforts at national, continental, and global levels, while showcasing its proactive stance on climate resilience.

The Deputy Prime Minister underscored the importance of sustainable and feasible solutions, highlighting that Ethiopia is currently implementing policies that are in line with this strategy.

Ethiopia has formulated a voluntary plan to address climate change in line with the Paris Climate Agreement, which is set to continue until 2030. This plan is supported by a 30-year strategy for a green economy that is resilient to climate change.

The Green Legacy Initiative is a notable effort towards climate action, having successfully planted more than 32.5 billion seedlings within a span of five years. Temesgen has officially declared the commencement of the sixth phase of the initiative, urging for ongoing assistance.//
