Controversial Sub-Article Removed; Ethiopia's Disaster Risk Management Proclamation Approved

The House of Peoples' Representatives today, during its 34th regular session, unanimously approved the draft proclamation on Ethiopia's Disaster Risk Management.

A detailed report and recommendation regarding the proclamation were presented to the council by its Standing Committee on Foreign Relations and Peace Affairs.

It was noted that, following discussions and an agreement, the controversial clause concerning salary deductions, which had caused contention during previous deliberations on the draft proclamation, was removed from the proclamation.

As stated by the Standing Committee when presenting its recommendation, the provision in Article 29, Sub-Article (1), letter (T) of the draft proclamation was removed from the sub-article to prevent the salary deduction from imposing an excessive financial burden on employees.

Consequently, after reviewing the presented report and recommendation concerning the proclamation, the council unanimously approved the draft proclamation as Proclamation No. 1386/2017.
