Somalia Parliament Warns of Impending Collapse

Members of the Somali Parliament have announced that the country's political crisis is worsening.

During a session convened to approve an electoral law, the parliament experienced significant unrest. Subsequently, in a statement, the parliament declared that the current Somali government is abusing its power, violating the constitution, and employing military force to establish an authoritarian regime.

The statement highlighted the escalating corruption within the country. It further asserted that the government's use of the military for political purposes is eroding trust and fueling tribal divisions. The parliamentarians also stated that the government is undermining the constitutions of regional administrations.

The statement accused the current Somali government of squandering national resources, displacing citizens, and misappropriating public funds for personal gain. It further criticized the government for deploying the Somali army in a manner that exacerbates tribal divisions, hindering its ability to effectively combat Al-Shabaab and even manage territories under its control.

Parliament members urged an immediate end to tribal and national army divisions, and attempts to illegally extend the government's term. They also demanded an end to the manipulation of the judiciary for political gain and interference in the procedures of the House of the People.

The statement warned that unless these issues are addressed, Somalia, already at a crossroads, risks collapse.
