Former U.S. President, Donald Trump, received a hero’s welcome Monday at the Republican National Convention in Milwaukee, where he became the 2024 republican presidential nominee.
In what marks his first public appearance since surviving an assassination attempt Saturday, Trump appeared sporting a white bandage on his ear.
He waved at a packed arena, receiving a standing ovation from cheering supporters.
Soaked in the warm reception, the former US President refrained from speaking but stood alongside his newly announced running mate, Senator J.D. Vance.
When the 78-year-old Trump acknowledged the crowd, at the convention floor occupied by over 2,400 delegates, they erupted in chants of “USA! USA!”
Earlier Monday, Trump announced via his social media platform Truth Social that he had chosen Senator Vance as his running mate, ending months of speculation on his vice president pick, according to Xinhua.
Vance, 39, was elected to the U.S. Senate in 2022 and sworn into office in January 2023. He was a fierce Trump critic in 2016 but has since become a prominent supporter of the former president's "Make America Great Again" agenda, particularly on trade, foreign policy and immigration.
