Ethiopia’s 2016 Olympic champion Almaz Ayana took top honor Sunday at the Vedanta Delhi Half Marathon winning the World Athletics Gold Lable Road race in 1:07:58.
Almaz ran alongside fellow Ethiopians Aberash Minsewo and Dessie Anchinalu as well as Kenya’s Viola Chepngeno and Uganda’s Chesang, covering the first 5km in 15:45, with Vivian Cheruiyot chasing them.
Though Almaz slowed down in the closing stages, she was at a comfortable distance ahead of Chesang, who came second place in 28 second later.
Almaz crossed the finish line in 1:07:58, recording her second win in New Delhi following her 1:07:12 triumph in 2017.
In the men’s race, Kenya’s Daniel Ebenyo won the distance finishing in 59:27, while his compatriot Chales Matata and Ethiopia’s Addisu Gobena took second and third place respectively.
