Ethiopia's electric vehicle (EV) adoption is accelerating, with the Ministry of Transport and Logistics announcing that the number of EVs in the country has now surpassed 110,000. This significant milestone reflects a growing public awareness and increasing user base for electric transportation.
According to Amelework Ezikiel, Chief Executive of Communications Affairs at the Ministry, who spoke to FM Addis 97.1, the surge in electric vehicles represents a major stride towards Ethiopia's goals of reducing fuel expenditure and enhancing environmental protection.
The push for electric mobility comes as Ethiopia currently allocates more than $5 billion USD annually towards fuel imports. The expanding EV fleet is poised to play a crucial role in mitigating this substantial cost and contributing to a greener, more sustainable transport sector.
