President Taye Champions Ethiopia’s Policy Reforms, Creates New Opportunities For Foreign Investment

President Taye Atsek Selassie announced today that Ethiopia’s recent policy reforms have significantly enhanced the environment for foreign direct investment (FDI), a message delivered at the opening of the “Invest Ethiopia 2025” forum. The event, which convenes international business leaders and investors, aims to address challenges in the investment landscape and propose viable solutions.

In his opening remarks, President Taye emphasised the importance of the forum as a platform for dialogue, stating, “This gathering will not only highlight the challenges we face in the investment sector but will also serve as a breeding ground for innovative solutions.”

He expressed optimism that the discussions would foster a collaborative spirit among stakeholders, ultimately benefiting the Ethiopian economy.

The President highlighted key reforms that have opened up sectors such as banking, telecommunications, and finance to foreign investment.

“These changes signify Ethiopia’s commitment to sustainable growth and development. By attracting foreign capital, Ethiopia aims to bolster its economic framework and create jobs for its burgeoning population,” he noted.

Finance Minister Ahmed Shide echoed the President’s sentiments, pointing out the country’s vast labour force and arable land as significant assets for potential investors.

“Ethiopia is rich in resources and opportunities. Our large workforce is ready to meet the demands of various industries, and we are eager to showcase our potential to the world,” he said.

A notable aspect of the forum is the introduction of a digital one-stop shop for investors, which Minister Ahmed believes will streamline processes and enhance accessibility.

“This initiative will simplify the bureaucratic hurdles that often deter foreign investment. We are committed to making Ethiopia a more attractive destination for global investors,” he explained.

As the forum progresses, it is expected that various stakeholders will engage in discussions on sector-specific challenges and share insights on best practices from successful investments in other regions. The Ethiopian government is keen on leveraging these interactions to refine its strategies further and ensure a conducive environment for FDI.

With these reforms and initiatives in place, Ethiopia is positioning itself as a competitive player in the global investment arena, aiming to attract significant foreign capital that can drive its economic ambitions forward.
