The Finance Minister of Ethiopia, Ahmed Shide, had a productive meeting with the newly appointed Executive Secretary of the Economic Commission for Africa (ECA), Mr. Calver Gatete, at his office today.
Ahmed Shide emphasized the importance of cooperation between Ethiopia and the ECA in order to ensure that the continent's voice is heard on a global scale. He mentioned that the Ethiopian government has been working on the Home-Grown Economic Reform (HGER) Agenda and other macroeconomic reforms, and regularly engages with reliable development partners like the ECA to achieve Ethiopia's growth and development goals.
Ahmed Shide, who currently serves as the Chairman of the Horn of Africa Initiative, expressed his commitment to collaboration with the ECA as a regional partner.
Calver Gatete, on his part, stated that the ECA, being founded to promote the welfare of Africans, must collaborate with African presidents and finance ministers to advance the African agenda.
It was also announced during the meeting that the 56th Conference of African Ministers of Finance, Planning, and Economic Development will be hosted by the ECA in Victoria Falls, Zimbabwe, from March 4-5, 2024. This session will address the issue of funding the transition to inclusive and environmentally friendly economies.
