Ethiopian Tigist Assefa has shunned Women World Marathon by more than 2 minutes.
The whole world must be puzzled by the unique performance of Ethiopian’s in the field of Athletics.
Since Abebe Bikila’s barefooted unique victory at the 1960 summer Olympics in Rome, Ethiopian Athletes have maintained reigning in each and every competition in the world stages.
This winning spirit is transcending from generation to generation and the Ethiopian Tigist Assefa, who is Double Olympic champion, has beaten the existing marathon world record in Berlin by more than two minutes on Sunday.
“The fact the 26-year-old Ethiopian shattered the previous best, set by Brigid Kosgei in 2019, by 2min 11sec was remarkable enough. Yet the way she powered home through the Brandenburg Gate suggested she could go even quicker still”, The Guardian describes.
Tigist, who only started racing marathons in April last year, made her intentions clear from the start with a lightning-quick pace of her own.
Sources dictate, “She was an 800 runner through 2016 but her track career was derailed by an Achilles problem in 2017, which forced her to the roads. It took her a few years to emerge.”
“I think this is the result of hard work over the last year,” said Tigist.
Of course, determination and endurance are in the blood of Ethiopians to win fame and respect to beloved country Ethiopia and its flag!
