Ethiopia Achieves Record Export Earnings, Surpassing $7 Billion in 11 Months

Ethiopia has generated over $7.21 billion from exports in the first 11 months of the current fiscal year, marking the highest revenue in the country's export history. The Ministry of Trade and Regional Integration announced this achievement today, June 19, 2025.

The impressive figures were discussed during the House of Peoples' Representatives' 38th regular session, where the Ministry of Trade and Regional Integration presented its 11-month performance report for the 2017 fiscal year.

Dr. Kassahun Gofe, Minister of Trade and Regional Integration, highlighted that the actual export performance significantly exceeded the initial target of $4.59 billion. He further projected that export earnings are expected to surpass $8 billion by the end of the fiscal year. This year's earnings represent a substantial increase of over $3.96 billion compared to the 2016 fiscal year.

Dr. Kassahun attributed this remarkable success to the ongoing macro-economic reform efforts, noting that the export sector is a key driver of positive economic outcomes. He explained that the record-breaking revenue was achieved by fostering a favorable environment for exports, addressing various legal and procedural hurdles, and enhancing coordination with exporters and other stakeholders.
