Ethiopia's Electric Power Service has reached 4.9 million customers. The Ethiopian Electric Power Service announced that it is working to bring in 600,000 new customers during the budget year.
The company stated that, since July 1, 2016, 167,952 new customers have gained access to electricity service, bringing the total number of customers to 4,936,912.
The report also highlighted the national electrification program. It stated that before 1998, there were 667 rural towns with access to electricity. This number has now increased to 8,245.
Regarding the construction of 25 mini-grids, the service reported that three have been completed, providing electricity to 74,222 citizens in previously unconnected areas according to FBC.
The overall project completion rate stands at 74%, and upon full completion, an additional 126,788 new customers are expected to gain access to electricity.
