Ethiopia's ambitious economic reforms have received a significant boost with the strong backing of Danish Finance Minister Nicolai Wammen. Visiting Addis Ababa as part of a joint high-level mission with Education Cannot Wait (ECW), Minister Wammen lauded the reforms' potential to drive economic growth and create a more inclusive society, attracting international investment in the process.
Danish Finance Minister Nicolai Wammen graced Ethiopia with his presence on a distinguished high-level mission, underscoring his role as a Global Champion for Education Cannot Wait (ECW).
During his stay in Addis Ababa, Minister Wammen eloquently highlighted the transformative power of the country's ongoing reforms, stressing their profound significance not just for the Ethiopian people, but also for global investors, whose future prosperity is intricately linked to these pivotal changes.
"Ethiopia has embarked on significant economic reforms," Wammen stated. "These reforms are not just ambitious but crucial for the country’s prosperity. My hope is that they will be successful and inclusive, benefiting all the people of Ethiopia. If executed wisely, the reforms could unlock tremendous potential, attracting investments and creating mutual benefits for Ethiopia and its international partners.", he explained .
Minister Wammen also lauded Ethiopia’s unwavering dedication to sustainable development, particularly in its valiant fight against the growing threat of climate change. He highlighted the strong partnership between the Danish government and Ethiopia in advancing the nation's green transformation, with a special emphasis on forestry and aquaculture. With a spirit of hope and conviction, Minister Wammen expressed his enthusiasm for Ethiopia’s ambitious plans to plant billions of trees as part of its bold green agenda—an initiative that harmoniously aligns with Denmark's own environmental vision and aspirations for a brighter, greener future.
"The green transformation and combatting climate change are areas where we must work together," Wammen emphasized. "Through our partnership with Ethiopia, we are making significant investments to support the green agenda. We will contribute 200 million dollars over the next few years to strengthen this focus. This is not just about rhetoric—it’s concrete action. We are taking responsibility alongside Ethiopia, and I believe this will not only yield great results but also encourage other countries to partner with Ethiopia, amplifying the impact even further.", he pointed out.
Minister Wammen also underscored the profound significance of education, particularly in regions scarred by the ravages of conflict. He passionately called for renewed efforts to restore the light of learning to children who have been deprived of their schooling, especially those whose precious years of education have been lost in the wake of strife and upheaval.
"It is crucial that children return to school and receive the education they need to build their futures and achieve their dreams," Wammen remarked. "Stable, peaceful conditions are key to ensuring that the education system remains intact, and we are committed to supporting Ethiopia in this effort.", he underscored
