Addis Ababa's ongoing corridor development projects are significantly contributing to the reduction of disaster risk within the city, according to Commander Ahmed Mohammed, Commissioner of the Addis Ababa Fire and Disaster Risk Management Commission.
The commissioner highlighted the challenges faced previously in controlling accidents, particularly those related to complex overhead electric wires. He noted that the new infrastructure integrated into the corridor developments addresses these issues by facilitating the underground burial of electric cables and installing fire hydrants at half-kilometer intervals, greatly improving response capabilities.
Corroborating this perspective, Wondimu Seta (Eng.), Chief Administrator of Addis Ababa with the rank of Deputy Mayor, affirmed that the infrastructure developments being undertaken possess a high capacity for both reducing the likelihood of accidents and enhancing resilience against disasters, FBC reported.
