Ethiopia Joins African Leaders in Kampala for Crucial CAADP Meeting

President Taye Atskeselassie is participating in a high-level emergency meeting of the Comprehensive Africa Agriculture Development Programme (CAADP).

The emergency meeting, taking place in Kampala, Uganda, is now in its third day and currently involves a leaders' summit. Participants include African Union Commission Chairperson Moussa Faki Mahamat, Ugandan President Yoweri Museveni, AU Commissioner for Agriculture, Rural Development, Blue Economy and Sustainable Environment Ambassador Josefa Sacko, other AU leaders, African heads of state, Ministers of Agriculture, development partners, and other stakeholders.

President Taye is representing Ethiopia, alongside Ethiopian Ambassador to the African Union and the UN Economic Commission for Africa, Hirut Zemene, and Minister of Agriculture, Dr. Girma Amente.

The meeting is reviewing CAADP's 10-year performance (2015-2025) and is expected to approve the 2026-2035 CAADP 10-year strategy and action plan. Discussions will cover sustainable food production, food security, agricultural and industrial development, inclusive citizen participation, building resilient food systems, and public-private partnerships.

The leaders' summit is expected to conclude today with various decisions, according to ENA. CAADP, an agenda 2063 continental framework, aims to help African countries develop their agricultural sectors to eradicate hunger and reduce poverty.
