Djibouti's Foreign Minister, Mahmoud Ali Youssouf, has been elected as the new Chairperson of the African Union Commission (AUC). He secured the necessary 33 votes in the final round of a closely contested election at the 38th Ordinary Session of the African Union Summit in Addis Ababa. The election saw a tight race with Kenya's Raila Odinga, ultimately decided in a three-round voting process. Youssouf's victory represents a significant diplomatic achievement for Djibouti.
