Ethiopia's Agriculture Minister Calls for Unity to Achieve African Food Sovereignty

Dr. Girma Amentie, Ethiopia's Agriculture Minister, has stressed the vital importance of teamwork and dedication at the recent (Comprehensive Africa Agriculture Development Programme) CAADP urgent meeting in Kampala, Uganda.

He emphasized that these are essential for Africa to attain food self-sufficiency and achieve widespread economic growth.

Dr. Girma emphasized the need for collective collaboration and commitment to ensure continent-wide food security and sovereignty, ultimately leading to a more prosperous Africa. 

He highlighted that Ethiopia is implementing various national initiatives to achieve the goals of CAADP. These initiatives, led by Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed, aim to contribute to the broader continental objectives.

The meeting was attended by several dignitaries, including Ambassador Josefa Sacko, African Union Commissioner for Agriculture, Rural Development, Blue Economy and Sustainable Environment; Ugandan Prime Minister Robinah Nabbanja; African Ministers of Agriculture; and other stakeholders.

Dr. Girma specifically mentioned the Green Legacy Initiative, noting that over 40 billion seedlings have been planted in the past six years, increasing forest cover from 17.2% to 23.6%. He stated that this initiative plays a crucial role in creating a resilient ecosystem and sustainable livelihoods.
