Addis Ababa and Semera Universities are conducting geological studies in the area affected by the earthquake in Afar.
Following the earthquake in Saganto Kebele, Dulesa Woreda, Gebrisu Zone, Afar region, the regional command post reported that displaced citizens are being housed in shelters. The Afar regional high command and the command post coordinator, Ahmed Ibrahim, explained that areas at risk of further damage from the earthquake are being identified, and residents are being moved to shelters to prevent further harm to the community.
The coordinator also stated that the Afar regional government established a command post to take preventative measures following the earthquake to minimize harm to the community. The coordinator, who led the command post and conducted a field observation in Saganto Kebele where the earthquake occurred, explained that the government is responding swiftly by providing water and clothing to those in the shelters.
Ahmed added that Addis Ababa and Samara Universities are also on the ground conducting geological studies in the affected area and preparing a report for the relevant authorities.
