Ethiopian Airlines, a member of the Star Alliance and Africa's largest carrier, has resumed flights to Monrovia, Liberia, on November 30, 2024.
At the inaugural ceremony, Mesfin Tasew, CEO of Ethiopian Airlines Group, emphasized the airline's ongoing commitment to expanding its network both within Africa and globally.
"This commitment is reflected in our expansions, including new routes to Dhaka, Bangladesh, and Port Sudan, Sudan, and now, the reintroduction of Monrovia to our global network. Our goal is to connect all 54 African countries together," Mesfin remarked.
The resumption of this flight strengthens ties between the two nations in the areas of tourism, culture, trade, and investment, as Mesfin highlighted.
He also noted, "Ethiopian Airlines has had a significant impact in Liberia by facilitating trade, tourism, and cultural exchange. Our presence has not only connected Liberia to the world but has also contributed to the economic development of the region."
Hon. Sirleaf Tyler, Minister of Transport of Liberia, underscored the immense importance of this flight resumption, stating that it will strengthen connections between the two countries across various sectors.
The relationship between Ethiopia and Monrovia dates back to November 1966, 58 years ago.
Ethiopian Airlines operates 142 destinations worldwide, including 66 in Africa.
