Addis Ababa Unveils 15,960 Completed Projects, Boosting Housing, Infrastructure, Youth Employment

The Addis Ababa City Administration is set to inaugurate a staggering 15,960 completed projects across the city, marking a significant milestone for the 2017 Ethiopian fiscal year. The projects, which address critical needs from housing to urban infrastructure and youth development, will officially open for public service starting tomorrow, July 6, 2025.

Enatalem Meles, Head of the City Administration's Communication Bureau, highlighted the scale and impact of these initiatives in a recent briefing. A major focus has been on alleviating the housing shortage, with over 10,000 new homes constructed through a collaborative effort between the government and local communities.

Beyond housing, the extensive portfolio of completed projects includes vital improvements to the city's social fabric. Health, education, and road projects have been developed to enhance community well-being and connectivity.

Addressing the aspirations of the city's younger population, 122 new sports facilities have been built. These initiatives have also played a crucial role in job creation, with employment opportunities provided for 366,000 young people.

Enatalem also pointed to the tangible progress made under the "Green Legacy" program, emphasizing that the high-quality work undertaken is designed to facilitate engagement from the international community in Addis Ababa.

The city's infrastructure has seen substantial upgrades, including the construction of 246 kilometers of pedestrian walkways, 141 kilometers of bicycle paths, and 43 kilometers of running tracks, according to FBC. Additionally, 53 kilometers of vehicle and interchange bridges have been completed, significantly improving urban mobility.
