President Taye Highlights Ethiopia's Long-Standing Contribution to African Football

President Taye Atske Selassie has highlighted Ethiopia's significant contributions to the development of African football since its inception. Speaking at the 46th Confederation of African Football (CAF) General Assembly held in Addis Ababa, President Taye emphasized Ethiopia's role as a founding member of CAF and its continued commitment to strengthening the sport on the continent.

He recalled that Ethiopia has a strong foundation in football, with millions of passionate fans, and is well-positioned to host the 2029 Africa Cup of Nations. The country is actively investing in modernizing its football infrastructure, building new stadiums and renovating existing ones to meet international standards.

President Taye’s remarks were echoed by CAF President Patrice Motsepe, who confirmed that Ethiopia's bid to host the 37th Africa Cup of Nations will be considered according to CAF's procedures. Motsepe acknowledged the deep-rooted passion for football among Ethiopians and recognized the country's suitability to host the prestigious tournament.

FIFA President Gianni Infantino also praised Ethiopia's role in the development of African football, highlighting the country's significant contributions to the sport's growth. He confirmed FIFA's continued support for the development of African football.

Ethiopia's bid to host the 2029 Africa Cup of Nations has been formally submitted by Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed, who cited the country's enthusiasm and readiness to host the tournament. With its rich history in African football, passionate fanbase, and ongoing infrastructure development, Ethiopia appears to be a strong contender for hosting the prestigious event.
