Ethiopia Set to Join BRICS'  New Development Bank

Ethiopia is set to join BRICS Development Bank, the country’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced.

The announcement came as the spokesperson of the ministry, Nebiyu Tedla, briefed media on various issues Thursday.

The spokesperson stated that Ethiopian delegation, headed by the Minister of Foreign Affairs, took part and had a productive discussion of the BRICS member states meeting in Moscow, Russia. Nebyu went on saying that Ethiopia, so far, joined BRICS to further its development goals and advance its national interests.

Nebiyu emphasized that the BRICS member nations' involvement in the discussion forum has been assessed and that suggestions have been made to be considered for the group's next meeting.

Thus, he also announced that efforts are underway to get Ethiopia admitted as a member of the BRICS'  New Development Bank

Talking on other diplomatic activities carried out, nebiyu said Foreign Minister Taye Atske Selassie and UN Deputy Secretary-General Amina Mohammed have recently met in Addis Ababa and discussed matters related to multilateral diplomacy.

They, and the Spokesperson added that Ethiopia is getting ready to host the 4th Finance for Development Conference with success in July.

Enhancing Ethiopia-Slovenia bilateral relations was also among the major undertakings of the ministry.

Nebiyu also mentioned the state visit by Prime Minister Abdulhamid Al-Dababi of Libya as fruitful.  The Libyan PM and Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed had dwelt on matters of mutual interest, he added.
