AU Media Fellows: Technologically Equipped Media Critical for Globally Competitive Africa

BY JERUSALEM BETSIHA

Members of the African Union Media Fellows say Africa needs technologically equipped media institutions to be globally competitive and tell more progressive and rational stories.

In this respect the 60-year-old Ethiopian Broadcasting Corporation (EBC) is on the right track, they said while visiting the newly built EBC media complex Thursday.

In 1963, ETV, Ethiopia’s first and only electronic media station at the time, was the pioneer to announce the formation of OAU to Africans and friends of Africa.

Millions remained glued to their black & white screens in a nation gripped with TV euphoria during those days.

The journalists appreciated the EBC’s modern equipment and state-of-the-art media techs with in the complex which gave EBC additional capability in its pursuit of delivering fresh, credible stories from around the continent and beyond.

Coordinator of the AU Media Fellows, Woyine Musabia, also urged African media houses to follow suit and equip themselves with as many high-tech instruments as they can.

Musabia also expressed hopes that EBC will go a long way to contribute for the booming the film Industry apart from serving the African news interest.

The African Media fellows also called on EBC to contribute its fair share in efforts geared towards ensuring that African voices remain impactful in the global arena.
