Ethiopia exported more than 377 thousand tons of pulses and oilseeds and fetching over USD310 million.
The report was disclosed as the 12th international conference on pulses and oilseeds kicked off in Addis Ababa themed “Ethiopia for Sustainable Source of Agro- Commodity Demand.”
The figure for the export volume was reported by Ethiopian Pulses, Oil Seeds and Spices Processors and Exporters Association.
In his keynote address, Board Chair of the association, Sisay Amare said the association is working diligently to rise the export volume by working on augmenting production and productivity of the products in the sector.
Minister of Trade and Regional Integration of Ethiopia, Gebremeskel Chala, for his part, indicated that the government is determined to promote the performance of service sector and agro-proceesors. It is also working jointly with pertinent stakes to accelerate regional integration, Gebremeskel said.
Over 400 exporters and importers of agro-machinery, oil seeds and pulses and representatives from over 20 countries are participating in the conference.
On the occasion, top oil seed exporters were awarded. MSA Trading, Abrham Abebe PLC and Edao International Trading were on top in exporting pulses.
These and other companies were awarded and recognized for exporting a large sum of products and fetching significant hard currency for the country.
