Ethiopian Airlines has signed an agreement to purchase 67 Boeing jets, making the deal one of the largest ever aircraft deals in the African aviation history.
The airline also announced it will acquire 11 Boeing 787 Dreamliners and 20 Boeing 737 MAX aircraft as part of the deal.
Ethiopian Airlines called the massive purchase a milestone event in African aviation.
Under the agreement, Ethiopian has the option to purchase an additional 15 Boeing 787 Dreamliners and 21 Boeing 737 MAX planes.
The deal was signed between Ethiopian Airlines Group CEO Mesfin Tasew and Boeing Senior Vice President of Commercial Sales and Marketing, Brad McMullen.
The purchase underscores Ethiopian Airlines' expansion goals as the carrier continues to build its fleet and aim for aviation dominance in Africa.
The airline currently serves over 60 African destinations from its hub in Addis Ababa.
