Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed stated that Ethiopia's gross domestic product (GDP) grew from $84 billion to $164 billion in the last 5 years.

He noted that per capita income increased from $882 to $1549. According to the PM, this data was not only stated by the Ethiopian government but also confirmed by the International Monetary Fund (IMF).

PM Abiy stated that out of the ETB547-billion provided in loans by banks, 86% went to the private sector.

Previously, the government used to take the largest share of loans but that has changed, he noted.

The country’s foreign debt was higher before he took office to the change, he said, and stated that the government has been intensively working to further lowering it to below 10% in the coming years.

Ethiopia’s foreign debt is relatively better than that of sub-Saharan countries, he added. he noted.
