Nasa spotted a huge crater on Mars and named it the ‘Chryse Alien Head’, UFO hunters have discovered. The space agency said the hole ‘resembled a bug-eyed head’ and was spotted by the Mars Global Surveyor in an area ‘not too far’ from the site where the Viking 1 probe landed on 1975.
It is probably caused by an asteroid impact, but the eyes may have formed during a mysterious flood way back in the history of Mars or been carved by wind or water erosion.
The image was published in 2005, but is currently doing the rounds right now thanks to an article by a UFO hunter called Scott C Waring, who said it was a monumental carving of an extraterrestrial being. ‘The ridges along its centre forehead show a unique feature of the alien not often seen,’ he wrote.
One lovably over-excited British tabloid likened it to the Cerne Abbas Giant, a chalk figure with a heroically huge erection on a hill near the village of Cerne Abbas in Dorset, England. Of course, it is rather bold to claim that photo is unequivocal evidence which proves extraterrestrial organisms can thrive on different planets.
It seems likely that it’s a name was a joke by some bored Nasa researcher. We have written to Nasa to confirm this and will update the article if it responds.
