The Minister of Health, Dr. Mekdes Daba, stated that health associations have a significant responsibility in reversing global health threats.
The Ethiopian Public Health Association held its 36th annual conference in Addis Ababa under the theme "Global Public Health Threats and Responses."
Opening the forum with a speech, Minister of Health Dr. Mekdes Daba stated that the role of health associations is crucial in creating new solutions by transforming the global threats in the health sector into opportunities.
She mentioned that pandemics, including COVID, which created global threats, passed after teaching the world a great lesson, and during this process, entities like the Ethiopian Public Health Association fulfilled their responsibilities in reducing vulnerability and contributing to health policy.
By expressing gratitude for the contributions the Ethiopian Public Health Association has made to the country on health issues, particularly including research, the Minister of Health stated that the Ministry will strengthen its cooperation with health associations and continue to work to reverse threatening health issues.
Dr. Agonafer Tekalign, President of the Ethiopian Public Health Association, on his part, said that although financial and geopolitical problems worldwide are challenging the health sector, the association is making great efforts to address public health challenges.
He emphasized that strong cooperation with stakeholders is needed to overcome obstacles and improve public health outcomes.
He also stated that the conference is very important in strengthening public health systems and policies.
