2500 athletes from more than 27 countries participated in the 23rd African Athletics Championship hosted by Cameroon, Douala for the past 6 days. Ethiopia also participated in 19 types of athletic competitions with 32 female and 36 male athletes and ended up winning 5 gold, 4 silver and 1 bronze medals for a total of 10 medals.
Athletes who won Gold Medals: Fantaye Belayneh in 5 thousand meters women, Nibret Melak in10 thousand meters men, Misgana Wakuma in the men's 20 km walking race, Sintayehu Masre in women's 20 km walking race and Saron Berhe in the women's 1500 meters.
Athletes who won silver medals: Wibrist Aschal in 5000 meters, Gemechu Dida in 10 thousand meters men, Alemnat wale in 3 thousand women sprint, Nibret Melak silver medal in the men's 5,000 meters.
Bronze medalist: Athlete Gela Hambese won a bronze medal in the women's 10,000 meters.
