African Football Legends Visit Ethiopia's Grand Renaissance Dam

Former African football stars and cultural figures currently visiting Ethiopia have toured the Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam (GERD), marking a significant moment in the country's efforts to showcase its landmark project.

The delegation, which includes Nigerian football legends Nwankwo Kanu and Daniel Amokachi, as well as Senegalese star Henri Camara, was given a comprehensive briefing on the dam's construction progress and its importance to the Ethiopian people.

The tour was led by Ambassador Nasise Chali, Minister of Tourism, and Dr. Abraham Belay, Minister of Irrigation and Lowlands.

According to information from the Ministry of Tourism, the visiting group also comprised artists and fashion designers, highlighting the diverse nature of the delegation.

During the visit, the ministers explained the construction process of the dam and elaborated on its significance for Ethiopia's development aspirations.

The GERD, which has been a source of both national pride and regional integration, is set to become Africa's largest hydroelectric power plant upon completion.

The presence of these African sports and cultural icons at the dam site not only adds a new dimension to the project's visibility but also potentially helps in fostering a sense of pan-African solidarity around Ethiopia's developmental goals.
