BRICS Forums that Ethiopia Partaken Registers Robust Diplomatic Achievements

In his biweekly press Briefing, Spokesperson of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Nebiyu Tedla, revealed the significant diplomatic achievements that followed Ethiopia’s active participation in the BRICS meeting Forums held in Russia. The briefing focused on the country’s major diplomatic activities, selectively on Ethiopia’s effective participation in the BRICS meetings.

Ambassador Taye Atske-Selassie with Ethiopia’s high-level delegation took part on the BRICS Foreign Ministers’ Forum, the Governor of the National Bank of Ethiopia and Ethiopia’s Sherpa to the BRICS Mamo Mihretu took part in the meeting of Sherpas and Sous sherpas of member countries. On the Meeting, Ambassador Taye listed out key measures undertaken by the government of Ethiopia with a focus of enhancing the role of Ethiopia within BRICS as he called for an increased constructive role of the BRICS member countries on pressing international issues, according to the spokesperson.

It was indicated The Ambassador stressed the need for reforming UN, international financial and security institutions taking into consideration of the interests of developing countries. The joint statement issued by the BRICS Foreign Ministers included Ethiopia’s perspectives, advocating for the integration of Ethiopia and other new members into BRICS and the New Development Bank, were recalled by Nebiyu. In order to reflect the current economic realities, The statement also called for Security Council reforms and changes in international financial institutions.

The spokesperson continued on saying that Ambassador Taye held separate bilateral engagements with the Foreign Ministers of eight BRICS and invited developing countries, as such as China, Brazil, South Africa, and Russia, securing political support for Ethiopia’s membership in the New Development Bank.
