President Urges Ethiopian Police University to Lead in Africa's Law Enforcement Education

President Sahle-Work Zewde has called on the Ethiopian Police University to intensify its efforts to become Africa's premier institution for police education and research.

Speaking at a graduation ceremony in Sendafa on June 29, 2024, President Sahle-Work emphasized the university's crucial role in enhancing the nation's police force through advanced training and education.

The president praised the university's initiative to offer free educational opportunities to police officers from neighboring countries. This program, she noted, not only fosters regional pride but also contributes significantly to strengthening cooperation in combating terrorism and cross-border organized crime in East Africa.

Addressing the graduates, President Sahle-Work highlighted their future responsibilities in society. She urged them to protect public peace and security, fight corruption, and uphold citizens' rights. The president stressed the importance of serving with integrity, loyalty, and professionalism.

President of the Ethiopian Police University, Deputy Commissioner General Mesfin Abebe described policing as an international profession requiring strict discipline and neutrality.

He emphasized the university's commitment to producing skilled, knowledgeable, and modern police officers and leaders who can effectively uphold the constitution and protect democratic and human rights.

The ceremony marks a significant step in Ethiopia's efforts to professionalize its police force and enhance regional security cooperation.

By striving to become a leading institution in Africa for law enforcement education, the Ethiopian Police University aims to play a pivotal role in shaping the future of policing not only in Ethiopia but across the continent.
