In a vibrant ceremony held at the Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam (GERD), Ethiopia commemorated the 404th anniversary of the Western Command known as “ Hidasse Core” otherwise called “Renaissance Dam's Core”, establishment, marking three years since was formed to oversee its operations. The event, themed "Renaissance in the Renaissance Dam," drew significant attention from government officials, military leaders, and local communities, all coming together to celebrate this monumental achievement in Ethiopia's history.

Field Marshal Berhanu Jula, Chief of Staff of the Ethiopian Armed Forces, delivered a powerful address emphasizing the dam's importance as a national asset.

He reaffirmed the military's commitment to support Ethiopia's progress and development through the dam. "The Ethiopian Renaissance Dam is not merely a project; it is a symbol of our resilience and determination," he stated. His remarks resonated with attendees who share a vision for a prosperous Ethiopia fueled by sustainable energy.

The GERD has been a focal point of national pride since its inception, representing Ethiopia's ambition to harness its natural resources for economic growth and regional stability. For his part, Ashadli Hassan, the Head of the Benishangul Gumuz Regional State, echoed Field Marshal Birhanu’s sentiments, highlighting the critical role of the Ethiopian Defense Forces in safeguarding the dam. "Our defence forces are diligently fulfilling their mission to protect this vital asset and ensure peace in our region," he remarked. His comments underscore the synergy between military efforts and national development goals.

The event was marked by speeches from various dignitaries, including Engineer Kifle Horo, General Manager of the GERD, who provided updates on the dam's progress. He shared insights into recent advancements in construction and operational readiness, reassuring attendees that the project is on track to meet its ambitious timeline. "We have made significant strides in our work, and we remain committed to completing this monumental project," Kifle stated.

Lieutenant General Mesele Meseret, Commander-in-Chief of the Western Command, also addressed the audience, emphasizing the strategic importance of the dam for Ethiopia's future. He noted that the dam serves as a unifying force for the nation, bringing together diverse communities in pursuit of a common goal. "The GERD represents our collective dreams and aspirations. It is a testament to what we can achieve when we stand together," he said.
