Inability to Dialogue Trapped Nation in Cycle for Years Says Ethiopia's Chief Dialogue Commissioner

Ethiopia's recurring challenges stem from a persistent inability to resolve issues through dialogue, according to Professor Mesfin Araya, Chief Commissioner of the National Dialogue Commission. He made the remarks today at a federal stakeholders' forum in Addis Ababa, emphasizing the critical role of open discussion in moving the nation forward.

Speaking at the agenda-gathering forum, Professor Mesfin acknowledged Ethiopia's long and often tumultuous history. He asserted that the Commission is actively engaging the public in its efforts to address the country's pressing issues, highlighting significant progress already made.

Looking ahead, Professor Mesfin identified key outstanding tasks for the commission, including integrating the Tigray region into the consultation process for agenda collection and gathering input from Ethiopians in the diaspora. He also extended an invitation to political parties currently not participating in the "historic process," urging them to join the dialogue.

The forum saw broad participation, with high-ranking government officials, including Deputy Prime Minister Temesgen Tiruneh, in attendance. Representatives from federal and religious institutions, the Ethiopian National Defense Force, Federal Police, national political parties, democratic institutions, as well as women, youth, persons with disabilities organizations, media, various associations, and diverse community segments were also present.
